Alfred Agbesi Woyome, a businessman, on Wednesday told the Fast Track High Court that, he played a financial engineering role in the annulled bid that received concurrent approval for the CAN 2008 tournament. He said the specific roles, he played in relations to the Accra, Kumasi and El-Wak was not with the Government but rather with Waterville Holdings, for which he was paid. �The arrangement between Waterville and myself was a private issue,� he added. Mr Woyome was being cross-examined by Mrs Yvonne Attakora Obuobisa, Chief State Attorney in Accra on Tuesday. When asked whether, the termination agreement between M-power pack and Waterville was signed after Waterville paid him (Woyome) 3.6 million Euros, he said it was incorrect and that the agreement was between the two companies and not him and Waterville. He said the payment was done after the termination of the agreement and not before. Mr Woyome was asked again, whether, he was aware of the expression of interest for the CAN 2008, where it was stated that funding was to be on a turnkey basis, he said yes. Explaining further, he said the turn-key basis was for companies, who put in a bid and have funds to finance the project, and government comes in to reimburse the enterprises, but Mrs Obuobisa disagreed with him. Mr Woyome is standing trial for defrauding by false pretences and causing financial loss to the state. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and is on a GH₵ 20 million bail. The court, presided over by Mr Justice John Ajet-Nasam, adjourned the case to November 3.
