Ghana Gas On The Status Of The Western Corridor Gas Infrastructure Project

Commissioning activities of the Gas infrastructure project have been progressing steadily. As of Monday, December 1, 2014, activities and processes have been sufficiently stabilized to the point where Ghana Gas is currently processing and making available to the VRA thermal power plant complex approximately 32-35 MMSCFD of lean gas, enough to support the generation of about 130-140 MW of electricity from the Aboadze complex out of the maximum 550MW currently possible. Ghana gas expects that the pace of commissioning will continue to be consolidated over the next two weeks. It is gratifying to note that at this stage, the electricity being generated by the VRA operating units at the Aboadze Thermal Power Complex is currently produced exclusively with gas from the Atuabo plant. Ghana Gas has been advised that VRA is currently utilizing the available WAGP Gas in the Tema power production enclave. Ghana Gas intends to ramp up gas production from 60 MMSCFD to the target flow of 120 MMSCFD (the full complement of gas requirement at Aboadze and sufficient for the generation of about 550MW of electricity) by end-December 2014, subject to the issuance of the requisite permits from the Energy Commission and the Petroleum Commission to allow the company to process and transport gas above 60 MMSCFD. VRA will also need to confirm its readiness to take the higher flows as and when it is available. DR. KWESI BOTCHWEY BOARD CHAIRMAN Accra: December 2, 2014
