Five Held For Murder Of Nanumba Chief

Five persons are being held by the police in connection with the murder of the Paramount Chief of the Nanumba Traditional Area, Naa Andani Dasana II, and five others on June 19, 2014. The suspects are Bawa Adam Gonta, 54; Shaidu Abubakar, 40; Yakubu Ibrahim, 40; Mohammed Issa, 39, and Adam Rabiu, 38. They are to stand trial for the murder of the chief, who was allegedly attacked in his palace in Bimbilla. The others who were also murdered in the attack were Alhassan Tango, Zimblim Mohammed, Yakubu Sulemana, Mumuni Shee and Alhassan Abdul Mumin. 25 suspects arrested The Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police Mr Prosper K. Agblor, told the Daily Graphic that after the incident, the police mounted a search for the perpetrators and succeeded in arresting 25 suspects. After investigations into the matter were completed, the docket on the case was forwarded to the Attorney-General�s Office for advice. In response, the Attorney-General advised that 20 of the suspects be freed. Charges The rest were charged with various offences, including conspiracy to commit murder, murder and unlawful possession of firearms. He said four of the suspects � Gonta, Abubakar, Ibrahim and Issa � had been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, contrary to Sections 23 (1) and 46 of the Criminal Offence Act 1960 (Act 29), in relation to the murder of the late chief. Gonta has also been charged with the murder of Tango, one of the five persons murdered with the chief. Rabiu will stand trial for discharging firearms in Bimbilla without lawful and necessary authority, contrary to Section 209 of the Criminal Offence Act.
