Ensure Regular Maintenance Of School Vehicles Director

Proprietors of private schools have been advised to ensure the regular maintenance of school vehicles, in order to make them road-worthy and safe for pupils. Mr. Godfred Axolu, Nkoranza Municipal Director of Education, gave the advice at a meeting with the executive members of the Nkoranza branch of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) at Nkoranza. Mr. Axolu stressed that the Proprietors should not only ensure the vehicles were road-worthy, but must also provide the pupils with quality diet, as well as proper physical and mental training.. He expressed concern about the use of old rickety vehicles which often broke down by some private schools, and therefore emphasized the need for the Proprietors to get newer and stronger vehicles to convey the pupils to and from school. Mr. Axolu also cautioned the Proprietors that over-loading of the pupils was contrary to road safety rules and regulations, and therefore urged them to desist from that practice for the health and safety of the children. He further urged proprietors to ensure accurate preparation of reports, and their timely submission to the Education Directorate for their schools to be captured in the educational activities and programmes of the Municipality. Mr. Axolu tasked them to organise regular in-service training programmes for their teachers, to keep them abreast with modern teaching methodologies.. He added that regular visits by GNAPS executives to member-schools in the area would also assist in the exchange of ideas with the proprietors, to build upon their experiences to improve upon the development of their schools. Private schools proprietors should provide adequate and decent sanitary facilities for their pupils and students, to prevent them from contracting communicable diseases, Mr. Axolu told them. The vice-chairman of the Association, Pastor Emmanuel Ansah-Damoah commended Mr. Axolu for his observations and advice, and requested for regular meetings for the general progress, particularly academic development of their schools.
