NPP Chases Krobo Chief For Declaring Support For Mahama

The Lower and Upper Manya Krobo Constituency Executives and the entire sympathizers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are up in arms against the paramount chief of Manya Krobo Traditional area, Nene Sakite II for declaring his peoples support for President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Nene Sakite is reported to have announced at a durbar held to commission the Kpong Water works Extension project commissioned by his Excellency President Mahama that, the Manya Krobos care about the NDC so much and will vote for them all the time. The statement which was said to have been published by a number of media outlets in the country and beyond has caused the displeasure of the NPP in the Lower and Upper Manya Krobo constituencies. The two constituencies thus held a joint press conference to condemn the Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakite and demanded an unqualified apology and retraction of the Konors pronouncement. In a statement read by Mr. Abumadu Aliase, the Lower Manya Krobo constituency secretary of the party, the comments by the Konor does not in anyway represent the position of the entire people of Manya Krobo. Considering the diversity of opinions and political persuasions in the area, it cannot be said that the Konor has spoken for Krobos, Aliase stated. The Krobo NPP hinted that, their checks at the traditional council indicate the Konor did not consult any member of the council before making the pronouncement hence it cannot be deemed as the stands of the traditional council but an individual opinion. Abumadu Aliase continued that the Konors actions is in contravention of article 276 clause 1 of the 1992 constitution which says a chief shall not take part in active party politics.. He considered Nene Sakites statement as a political campaign for the NDC ahead of the general elections in 2016. They however mentioned that, the facts on the grounds shows; Krobos are disappointed in the NDC government for taken them for granted since the inception of the fourth republic. The NPP Lower and Upper Manya Krobo were also of the view that the NPP under President Kufuor performed better than the NDC and the Krobos were better off under the NPP than the NDC. They have therefore demanded for an unqualified apology and retraction of the statement by the Konor or else they will advise themselves. ower Manya Krobo Constituency Chairman, Mr. Abraham T. Sackey noted that, the Kpong water project was started by former President Kufuor. He said the NPP government started the project and laid pipe lines from the lake to Adenta in Accra. According to him, the NDC government just came to add some finishing touches to the project and commissioned it hence do not understand why the Konor will not acknowledge the NPP but chose to paint the NPP black and glorify the NDC. He noted that, chiefs are supposed to be father for all hence Nene Sakite must emulate same and desist from partisan politics. Adding that, even though it was rumored that, Nene is an NDC sympathizer but his statement has come to confirm the rumor. However, Adom news reporter Maxwell Kudekors effort to reach Nene Sakite II for his reaction proved futile. He was said to have travelled to the United States as at the time our reported visited the palace.
