Structures constructed by World Vision, an international humanitarian organisation, for the people of Funsua, near Drobonso in the Sekyere Afram Plains District in the Ashanti Region, to process gari, is being used as classrooms by pupils of Funsua District Assembly Junior High School, due to the lack of a school structure.
The structures, which are yet to be inaugurated for use by the community, were put up by the organisation when it realised that Funsua was a major cassava producing area and, for that matter, needed a gari-processing centre.
The Assembly Member for the Funsua Electoral Area, Mr Salifu Musah, made this known to the Daily Graphic in an interview when the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekyere Afram Plains, Mr Alex Adomako Mensah, visited the area.
He said there were 21 students in JHS1 and 15 and 11 students in JHS2 and JHS3 respectively, and that all of them studied in the structure.
He, therefore, called on the government and civil society organisations to support the Funsua community to build a classroom block for the school.
He said due to the poor nature of the road from Bosomfo Junction at Mosipanin through Akoma to Funsua, as well as unsafe drinking water and lack of access to health care, teachers posted to the school were reluctant to accept the posting and therefore, called on the government to come to the aid of the school.
The MP who was accompanied by the Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Gibson Akroma, and the Vice-Chairman, Mr Kofi Yahaya, pledged his support for the school and called on others to come to the aid of the school.
