CHRAJ Boss' "Intransigence And Sycophancy Of Some Senior Lawyers Has Landed Her This Shame"

Nana Obiri Boahene, the Deputy General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed disappointment with the suspended Commissioner for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Ms Lauretta Lamptey, for bringing disgrace to her person. Speaking to Kwame Nkrumah Tikesieon OKAY FM, he was of the view that Ms Lampteys suspension is a disgrace which any learned lady like her should not bring upon herself. To Nana Obiri Boahene, the suspended CHRAJ boss should have left the job when the allegations came up to save her integrity and the image of the institution she headed but her intransigence and the sycophancy of some senior lawyers in this country has landed her the shame. A statement signed by the Chief of Staff Prosper Bani on Tuesday said The suspension follows the establishment of a prima facie case against Ms. Lamptey by the Chief Justice, and the setting up of a five (5)-member committee to investigate complaints made against her. Ms Lamptey courted controversy when she allegedly spent close to $5,000 monthly rent on her plush AU Village apartment for 33 months while over GHS180,000 was being spent to renovate her official bungalow which was previously occupied by Justice Emile Short, her predecessor. Immediately news of this finding broke, several people including the newly appointed General Secretary of the NPP impressed Ms. Lamptey to resign but their call fell on deaf ears. Nonetheless, Nana Obiri Boahene is saddened by the fact that such a fine lawyer and a pretty lady would allow herself to be humiliated in this manner. ..this is not to say she is guilty but her suspension is a disgrace and it is sad to see such a fine lawyer taken through such humiliation, he added.
