A youth group sympathetic to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has registered its displeasure at the manner in which the Managing Director of the State Housing Company, Dr Mark Nii Akwei Ankrah, is being kicked out of office.
According to the group, known as ‘Sese group, which predominantly comprises youth who are NDC supporters and based at Nima, Dr Ankrah’s contribution to the development of the company was enormous and should therefore be left to continue his good work.

The Press Secretary of the group, Alhaji Alhassan Abubakar Galadima, made this known in an interview with the Daily Graphic in  Accra last Monday.

According to the group, for some time now, the SHC had been running at a loss and it was only when Dr Ankrah took over that it was able to declare profit.

“He has plans for the youth and  the housing sector in the country and such an asset must be protected from the selfish interests of a few people,” Alhaji Galadima said.

The MD, he said, had, among other things, proposed the Nima Regeneration Project to provide decent accommodation for the people of the sprawling slum in the capital city, and  accused the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Alhaji Collins Dauda, of witch-hunting.   

The group, he said, was ,therefore, throwing its weight behind Dr Ankrah to ensure that he did not leave office. 

Issues at stake
Alhaji Collins Dauda last week asked the MD to step aside following allegations of maladministration and financial impropriety.

It was reported that Dr Ankrah had been accused of receiving GH¢36,000 monthly as payment for his phone bills.

Sese Group’s position
The Sese group says, “We are intimating that the decision smacks of bad faith and an attempt to impugn the integrity of a Ghanaian who has worked hard and made sacrifices to ensure that the State Housing Company is back on its feet. 

It said various reports by the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) had cleared Dr Ankrah of any wrongdoing following an earlier witch-hunting exercise to get rid of him.
