CENAB UK Says AYEKOO To NPP And All

CENAB UK, an affiliate of a worldwide CENAB Advocacy Group, involving a broad coalition of patriots, friends and sympathisers, political-minded and enthusiastic Ghanaians in the diaspora, wishing to see some positive changes in Ghana, especially in regard to its socio-economic development, sends a strong message of congratulations to NPP and its leadership for leading the well-meaning Ghanaians at the organised mammoth, yet still, peaceful demonstration to express the public disgust, disgruntlement and exasperation at John Mahama and his NDC-led colossal mismanagement of affairs in Ghana, especially the electrical power supply situation.

As reported by some major international media that over half a million Ghanaians came out to demonstrate against the government’s insensitivity to their plights, which we admire the peaceful manner, the political maturity and the professionalism exhibited by the great multitude of protesters, a manifestation which clearly depicts that change will surely come to relieve Ghanaians of the myriads of problems the country currently face under this leadership of John Dramani Mahama/NDC.

The leadership of the NPP have done extremely well by observing the sentiments and identifying themselves with the cries and suffering of majority of Ghanaians, by marching with the people shoulder to shoulder.

CEBAN UK believes that the NPP have been truly fair and even overly patient with the NDC’s incompetent administration for the past six years, in the face of the numerous problems the nation faces and have given the NDC enough opportunities to rectify matters before embarking on this demonstration. Even though the demonstration entitled “WON GBO” was precipitated by the current everlasting dumsor, it actually underlines the totalities of the NDC ineptitude, mismanagement and inefficiencies.

In the face of the crumbling economy, rising inflation even at a time when price of crude oil is falling, the depreciation of the local currency (cedi) and the over mountain overt corruption in every sector of the gov't institutions, the NPP have done very well to hold its patience. NDC’s poor management of the country should have provoked Ghanaians and opposition parties; reactions a long time ago.

What took place in Accra on Wednesday was not just a demonstration. It was the manifestation of the total disappointment and anger of the people of Ghana. The tens of thousands of people who invaded the streets of Accra was a signal to the NDC administration that the people of Ghana are fed up with their unparalleled corruption, poor management of our economy, the disrespect of our social contract with them, their breach of courtesy for press freedom with their naked opulence and arrogance.

The inscriptions on the placards breathed the feelings and sentiments of Ghanaians and the determination on the faces of the half a million protesters gave an indication of their willingness to dispose of the NDC in 2016. These sentiments are also a clear sign of warning to the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana that if they do not take the much requested electoral reforms seriously; the people of Ghana are prepared to take over the power they have willed to them. The Electoral Commission should better take a cue from this public anger and begin the process of making 2016 fairer and impartial.

The Christian Council as well as many other civil society organisations, such as the Economic Affairs (IEA), the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), IMANI-Ghana have all added their voices, as well as other political parties for proper reforms but so far it appears the Electoral Commission has failed to see the need to reform its operations seriously. The WON GBO demonstration should therefore set itself as a warning to the EC to begin work on their 10 member reforms committee set up to establish public confidence in it.

CENAB UK, in congratulating the NPP for showing such exemplary leadership and being a responsible opposition, is also urging the party to do more to allay the fears and concerns of its supporters and sympathisers that it is giving the NDC too much room to ruin our economy and destroy our social fabric. The party must do more to put the NDC under pressure and expose them as well as demand accountability and better performance on behalf of the people of Ghana.
As the largest opposition party, the NPP must own it to every Ghanaian to continue proving itself as ready to govern and ready to provide alternatives to NDC’s bad governance and poor performance. We therefore urge the party to use this successful demonstration as a precursor to the pressure on the government in the run up to the 2016 elections to ensure that change is attained for the good people of Ghana.

CENAB UK says Ayekoo to the Party and the good people of Ghana.
