NDC Govt Knows No Shame.... - Nana Akomea

The Communication Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akomea has chided the National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kofi Adams for blaming his [Akomea’s] party for the erratic energy situation in the country.

The NDC's National Organizer, on Okay Fm’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, slammed the opposition NPP for failing to commission a single energy project when it ruled the country for 8 years.

According to him, the measures being put in place by President John Dramani Mahama to end the “Dumsor” is unprecedented thus the NDC government needs commendation; adding the opposition NPP should zip up on the energy crisis since it never commissioned a single project to end the crisis.

But reacting to the issue on the same platform, Nana Akomea rebutted saying “this NDC government has shown it knows no shame. You have put Ghanaians in this worse condition of erratic power supply for 3 years and instead of apologizing to Ghanaians, you are here to blame that NPP failed to do its work when it was in power; are you not ashamed to say this?”

He wondered why NDC is still blaming the opposition NPP after their innumerous failed excuses and promises to address the erratic power situation; adding the NDC government never inherited the energy crisis when it took over government from the NPP in 2009.

To the NPP Communication Director, it is shameful for the ruling NDC to still blame NPP for its failure to resolve the crisis after 3 years in office. He said that when the energy problem started, NDC on several occasions gave several excuses and indulged in blame games for their inefficiencies.

"NDC gave excuses that there was an accident in Togo and later they said there was another accident in South Africa but when they were resolved, we are still in erratic power supply; they increased the electricity tariffs by 80 percent in order to provide quality service but we are still where we are after paying. They relied on Bui Dam to make things right but we are still facing the worse of the crisis; they again blamed it on the crude oil price but the price is now $50 per barrel and we are still in the energy crisis”, he wondered.

He maintained that the erratic power supply on daily basis is going worse after every promises and excuses by President John Dramani Mahama to fix the energy crisis; enlisting that “the erratic power supply started with 6 hours, then 18 hours and now 24 hours……instead of apologizing to Ghanaians and beg for more time, you turn around to blame NPP for your incompetence.”

“There was no Dumsor Dumsor when NPP handed over to NDC in 2009; it started in 2012 and then you blame NPP for it, are you not ashamed”, he asked.

Highlighting the role of his party, he stated through NPP, VRA plant produced 110 megawatts, Mines Reserved plant produced 80 megawatts, VRA Plant No.2 gave 50mw; Asogli supplied the country with 200mw of power, Bui Dam produced 400mw, Aboadzi Plant No.3 gave 136mw and Osono Thermal Plant also supplied 120mw.

He again mentioned that Kpong Thermal Plant produced 220 megawatts of power and Akosombo Retrofit gave the country 130mw, while the Energy Saving Initiative by the Energy Commission saved 120 megawatts of power for the national grid.
