Wontumi Jabs Mahama

To some National Democratic Congress (NDC) members, the continuous stay of DCOP Kofi Boakye in office means that their operation to win one million votes in the Ashanti region in the 2016 General Elections will never materialise.

Aside from DCOP Boakye, the heads of ACP Ampofo Duku, the deputy Regional Commander and ACP Kwaku Boadu Peprah, the Suame Divisional Commander, have been demanded by a pressure group attached to the NDC.

But members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region, led by their Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, have sounded a word of caution to the president, insisting that any meaningless change from him would be met with rancour.

In an interview with Mr. Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman ‘Wontumi’ on Peace FM yesterday , he stated that should President Mahama go ahead and heed to the ‘baseless’ cry of his party members by replacing DCOP Kofi Boakye with a new officer, they (NPP) would never respect the officer for the rest of his life.

Part of the NDC security caucus petition to the president reads: “Transfer these police commanders from the Ashanti region and bring in new police commanders, who possess unquestionable integrity and unblemished reputation; who believe in fairness and in the ideals and values of NDC and the Better Ghana agenda.

“We also wish to state categorically that Kumasi and Ashanti region as a whole need police commanders who totally believe in the values and ideals of NDC and Better Ghana agenda as election 2016 is approaching.

“We in the NDC must be careful and always exercise diligence on the postings and transfer of police commanders who are in bed politically with and also sympathetic to the cause of the NPP in Kumasi and Ashanti region.”

But according to Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, should a new person come in to replace DCOP Kofi Boakye, they will never accord that officer respect and would always consider him as an agent of the NDC chosen to do their ‘petty’ biddings.

“If based on the petition, President Mahama heed to the cry of his party members by replacing Kofi Boakye with another commander; we in the NPP would never accord him with any respect.

It would only go a long way to reinforce our perception that the NDC is deliberately destroying our security forces with politics,” he said.
