Ashanti Police In Warm Up Exercise

Personnel from the Ashanti Regional Police Command, on Wednesday embarked on a fitness and endurance exercise, as part of efforts at checking the physical and mental alertness of personnel of the service. The almost two hour exercise, known in the Police Service as the Regional Commanders Parade, took officers through body and mental drills in order to refresh the memories of officers, and to reinvigorate their skills, in the operations of the service. The regular parade, which used to be prominent in the calendar of the Police Service, but abandoned over the years, was re-introduced by the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Paul Tawiah Quaye, as part of his ongoing plans to re-brand the service, and make it more efficient in its duties to the public. The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Patrick Timbillah, in his address to the personnel at the parade mounted at the Regional Police Depot, urged the service men to exhibit a high sense of professionalism and discipline, and desist from acts such as corruption and abuse of power, which according to him, had over the years dragged the name of the service into the mud. The Ashanti Regional Police Commander urged personnel of the service to demonstrate respect for human rights, and avoid acts such as torture, violence and ill-treatment of suspects. He noted that the Police Service, under the new IGP, was undergoing dynamic resurgence, indicating that competence, efficiency and high quality policing, which shows affection and love towards the public, should be the benchmark. DCOP Timbillah asserted that it was against these avowed objectives, that the police parade was re-introduced to instill and consolidate a sense of command and control, which he said, was the basic element which fortified high class policing. He cautioned all personnel in the region to comply with the order issued by the authorities, and put on their name tags when on duty, stressing that appropriate sanctions would be instituted for non-compliance with the directive. Let me caution you that any uncouth and unethical behavior would not be countenanced, as the Police Administration is desirous of weeding out the bad nuts in the service. The service believes in quality, and not in quantity, DCOP Timbillah emphasised. He praised the officers for their smart turn-out and impressive display of skills during the parade, and disclosed that the exercise would be organised on the last Wednesday of every month.
