Cape Coast Hospitals Record Thirty-Six Easter Babies

Thirty-six births were recorded in four hospitals in the Cape Coast Metropolis during the period of Easter.

Six males and six females were delivered on the Good Friday; four males and 10 females on the Holy Saturday; while six males and four females were born on Easter Sunday.

Fifteen of the babies were born at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH); 19 at the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital with the Adisadel Urban Health Centre recording two.

Madam Ruth Aina, a midwife on duty at the CCTH, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that out of the 15 births recorded at her facility, six were born through Caesarean section, including a set of female twins; while nine were normal deliveries.

She said five of the Caesarean operations were done on the Saturday, and one on Sunday and stated that both mothers and babies were in very good health.

She advised expectant mothers to eat balanced diets and endeavour to do more exercises.

They should also follow all lessons of antenatal clinics in order to have safe deliveries.

At the Cape Coast Metro Hospital, Madam Mercy Baaba Sam, the senior midwife in-charge, said only one birth went through Caesarean section, which was on the Holy Saturday, while both the mother and child doing well.

She urged expectant mothers to endeavour to get people to donate blood for them before delivery in order to have blood available for transfusion should they bleed excessively during their delivery.

Madam Sam advised husbands to accompany their women to the hospital during their delivery to encourage them deliver safely.

Mrs. Sam urged the Government, philanthropists and corporate bodies to aid the maternity ward, which she said, lacked good ventilation, mosquito-proof window nets and a television set.

Maame Esi Banful, who had delivered a few hours before the GNA visited the Cape Coast Metro Hospital, said was so happy to have given birth on the day that Jesus’ resurrection was being commemorated and was very thankful to God.
