The Ga Paramount Stool has been given the mandate by the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to enstool a chief for the Ga State.

The mandate was given to the paramount stool after the final verdict of the consolidated chieftaincy dispute between the late King Tackie Tawiah III versus other stakeholders of the Ga State.

Members of the Ga Dsase (Kingmakers of the Ga state) and stakeholders of the Ga state led by the Ga Paramount stool Dsasetse, Nii Tetteh Kwei II, deliberated on issues arising out of the final ruling at a meeting and also to chart the way forward.

The meeting brought together government officials, heads of private institutions and religious leaders to deliberate on issues pertaining to the peace of the state.

Although the chieftaincy dispute had officially been settled in the Ga State, Nii Tetteh kwei II, who is the acting paramount chief of the Ga state stated that the Kingmakers were still looking out for a disciplined and competent person who would be accepted by indigenes of the Ga State.

He noted that peace could be sustained if all anomalies pertaining to the chieftaincy dispute were settled.

He urged all stakeholders in the Ga State to contribute their quota to the development of the Ga State in order to overcome challenges facing them.

He appealed to the security agencies in the country to put in more effort to sustain the peace that had been restored to the Ga State, saying: “We are one people with a common destiny and it is necessary to unite with each other.”

In order to gain peace, he noted that it was necessary to address all the disputes among the various clans in the Ga State. 

Background of chieftaincy dispute
On December 10, 2004, when the paramount chief of the Ga state, Boni Nii Amugi II, passed away, a new paramount chief known in private life as Dr Joe Blankson was enstooled on June 2006 as a successor to Nii Amugi II who was then yet to be buried. 

The reaction of the Ga community was swift and uncompromising, which led to the filing of a petition at a registry of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to challenge the nomination, election and enstooling of Dr Joe Blankson with the title of King Tackie Tawiah III, as paramount chief of the Ga State.

Maintain peace
In a speech read on his behalf, the Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, Dr Henry Seidu Danaa, lauded the move of the paramount stool to restore peace and order in the Ga State.

He urged the authorities, kingmakers and other stakeholders to maintain the peace among themselves, adding that: “Nothing should be done to tarnish the image and reputation of chieftaincy institution.”
