"Available Oil Can Last For Only 3 Weeks"

The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) is reported to have withheld supply of fuel to the Eastern Region following the commodity's shortage in the southern parts of the country. A petroleum products dealer from the Eastern region by name Sumaila disclosed this to Peace FM. According to him, he tried to procure fuel for the Eastern region but the Oil Marketing Company (OMC) refused, claiming TOR has directed them to supply oil only to the Greater Accra and Central regions. Speaking to Peace FM, the Public Relations officer (PRO) of TOR, Mrs. Aba Lokko admitted Mr. Sumailas allegation, stating, "It is true. For now, we are concentrating on Greater Accra and Central regions. According to her, the available supply at TOR is now only 27,000 metric tonnes which can last for only three weeks. She explained that the shortage in the two regions is more acute, compared with the situation elsewhere. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Company, Mr. Alex Mould had earlier revealed to Peace FM that the fuel shortage came about as a result of the governments inability to import crude oil for about six months due to unfavourable tides.
