Tigo:We Released Call Records Of A Lady..But

Officials of Millicom Ghana Limited, operators of Tigo, the mobile telecoms company, have admitted releasing call records of a lady client but only to the police after an official request. The woman in question on Tuesday threatened to sue the company after realizing that her husband, with whom she has a recurring misunderstanding, was in possession of printed details of her call records. She told Joy FM that she put her mobile phone under a security password, and was therefore surprised when during exchanges with the husband, the latter was able to quote transactions on her phone. When she challenged the husband to prove his claims, he showed her an officially printed copy of her activities on the phone. She said her husband was not a policeman and she was therefore going to hold Tigo responsible for breaching confidentiality rules to release the information to the husband. But Anita Erskine, Head of Communications at Tigo told Joy news the information was released by the company to the police after an official request. She said however that the company was investigating the matter because it involved a lot of people. Early on, Ms Wolasi Kanda, Marketing Officer at Tigo had told Myjoyonline that the police department officially wrote to request for the information, and that was the only reason why it was released. She would not tell who had signed the letter requesting the information or from which office of the Ghana Police Service the letter had come from. The police are unclear who may have used official letterheads of the institution to demand the release of the confidential information and have also begun investigations.
