Samia Begs CPP Members Not To Desert Party

The national chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Samia Yaba Nkrumah is asking party members across the country not to bow to pressure and defect to other political parties.

“I don’t want you to go to NPP [New Patriotic Party] and we don’t want you to go to the NDC [National Democratic Congress]! It’s CPP, CPP!” she said.

She acknowledged that although the CPP has become a dormant party, it has the prospect of rising again.

The former Jomoro Member of Parliament (MP) made this appeal while addressing the Northern Regional branch of the party after the election of regional executives.

The CPP has over the years been losing members to the two major political parties in the country – NDC and NPP.

It has had a former presidential candidate of the party, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, break away to form his political party called the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).

The PPP contested in the 2012 general elections, but failed to be elected by the people to govern, though it did perform better than the CPP did in that election.

There have also been suggestions that the smaller parties in Ghana should join forces to become the third major political party.

Although there have been talks between the parties, the plan is yet to materialize.

Ms. Nkrumah nonetheless charged party members to “stand strong and stand independent.”

She admonished them not to be afraid but should gather the courage to let the general public know that the “CPP will finish, complete the unfinished business of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah [Ghana’s first President and founder of the CPP].
