La Nmati Dzrase Petitions Minister Over Cantonments And Airport Lands

The representatives of Nmati Dzrase Quarter, one of the seven quarters of La, have petitioned the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Inusah Fuseini, to register their displeasure over what they described as injustice in the return of their outskirt lands by Government through the La Traditional Council.

The petition, signed by Dr. W. Odame Larbi, the Executive Secretary of the Quarter and intercepted by The New Crusading GUIDE, indicated that the intentions of the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to have returned their outskirt lands (Cantonment and Airport) to them in 2012, after several petitions, had been made nonsense by the La Mantse and his legal advisors.

According to the Nmati Dzrase Quarter, the La Mantse and his cohorts were selling out the lands to private developers instead of them the ‘pre-acqisition owners’ of the lands.

The petition alleged that information reaching them indicated La Mantse and his lawyer were working with officials of the lands commission to have additional Cantonments lands released to them and that any further releases in the name of La Traditional Council would never get to the intended beneficiaries.

They are therefore praying the Minister to ‘correct the injustice’ that is being meted out to Dzrase Quarter, and also instruct that the next tranche of lands be released directly to Dzrase quarter instead of La Traditional Council.

The quarter again complained against the authorities of Ghana Armed Forces, whom they allege were given part of Dzrase Quarter land compulsorily acquired by the colonial government of which they have realized they were being sold to private developers instead of returning them to the rightful owners if they have no use for them.

Describing their action as injustice to the indigenous people of Accra who sacrificed their lands for the establishment of Accra, they noted that the military did not own the land and therefore could not give it out to private developers.

The Dzrase Quarter has threatened to go settle on the said lands and take their chances with the Armed Forces if the Minister would not put a stop to their action.
