Kids Told To Report Suspicious People To Their Parents

The Accra Region Police Public Relations Officer, Effia Tenge, has appealed to children of Morning Glory Montessori School to be vigilant and report suspicious people to their parents.

The advice is intended to instil security consciousness in the kids before they mature.

ASP Effia Tenge spoke at the school’s Career Day Celebration to a cross-section of students aspiring to pursue professions in various security services. ASP Tenge also dispelled some negative preconceptions the children had about the police.

Educating them on the work of the police, the Accra Region PRO stated that the existence of the service is supported by the constitution, which mandates them primarily to maintain law and order.

One of such notions, according to a pupil, was that police officers shoot people. “We do not shoot people indiscriminately,” Effia corrected.

The Accra Region PRO took the children through some other major activities of the police, which are protection of lives and property, prevention of crime, detection of crime and processing of criminals for court.

On protection of lives and property, she told the children that the police administration has instituted ‘Visibility Policing’ to make the presence of the police felt in the community.

“Based on intelligence we gather through informants, we are able to break through and arrest some criminals before they attack,” she added.

She also noted that aside that, when crimes are committed, the police investigate and arrest the culprits.

“After which we process the criminals for court,” she added. The children were able to recite two police emergency numbers after the talk.
