Editor-In-Chief of The Informer newspaper, Andy Kankam has slammed the Power Minister, Dr. Kwabena Donkor for setting up a new committee meant to restructure activities at the Volta River Authority (VRA).

According to him, the Power Minister's action is in complete variance with an already established outfit by the VRA board to shift from hydro to thermal to help solve the energy crisis.

“So if the Power Minister, Dr. Kwabena Donkor says he has put up a committee to look into the issue and Dr. Wereko Brobbey as advisor of the committee is to recommend the restructuring of the energy at VRA, it is totally unacceptable,” he chided.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, Andy Kankam cautioned Dr. Kwabena Donkor to take his time on his job to deliver on his promise; alleging that the Power Minister has made himself a dictator at the ministry threatening to fire a top management member of VRA.

“I am reliably informed that Dr. Kwabena Donkor has made himself a dictator at the Power Ministry by threatening a top management member of VRA on phone to fire him and dissolve the board if he does not agree with the committee he’s setting up. Does he have the capacity to dissolve the VRA board? In the first place, are you the one who appointed the board members?”, he asked.

He however urged the Power Minister to concentrate on his core duties and listen to wise counsel by doing enough broad consultations so that the President’s effort in solving the energy crisis will not be a mirage.

He was optimistic that the energy crisis will be solved not because Dr. Kwabena Donkor has been appointed as the Power Minister but rather due to the VRA's determination to work around the clock to strategically help resolve the energy crisis.

He emphatically stated that the restructuring going on at VRA is waste of tax payer’s money as the authority is already doing restructuring by training people to meet the current energy crisis.

He asked “what is the essence of this committee? Dr. Wereko Brobbey as the advisor to the committee is an insult to the President who appointed the Power Minister because Wereko Brobbey was fired from VRA”.

“We don’t support his constant talks and to me his comment against the celebrities was a bad taste. He should stop interfering with the work of VRA and concentrate on his job. President Mahama should dissolve that committee immediately; we cannot continue this way. He should not disappoint the people of this country and the President who appointed him. His action should show he is working more than the public commentary,” he chided.
