Investigate Illegal Appointments @ KATH AYA Appeals To Mahama

The hullabaloo about appointments in ranks at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has resurfaced, with a call on His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, and the new Health Minister, Mr. Alex Sebgefia, to institute corrective measures to forestall any danger.

The Ashanti Youth Association (AYA) has also called for an immediate investigation into the alleged illegal appointments, and asked the President to intervene and save the hospital from what they termed unhealthy developments.

At a news conference in Kumasi yesterday, the AYA bemoaned the Machiavellian tactics going on at the second largest referral hospital in Ghana. According to the National Secretary of the AYA, Barima Tweneboa Kodua, heads of affairs at KATH are scheming to bring on a crop of incompetent people to steer the affairs of the facility.

It wondered why Korle-Bu and Tamale Teaching hospitals are being manned by indigenes, while KATH is under the stewardship of a non-Akan.

The AYA noted that the mode of appointment of the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KATH, Dr. Joseph Akpaloo, was illegal, and added that the appointment of Mr. George Tetteh, as acting Director of Administration, has left a bad taste in the mouth of KATH workers, and explained that Mrs. Georgina Yeboah had been holding the fort excellently for Mr. Gyimah, who was on medical leave.

The AYA stated that the Dr. Akpaloo and Tetteh have not passed through the ranks to head a facility like KATH, adding that Dr. Tetteh is a junior staff, and the right appointment ought to be done. The group indicated that it will press home their demand to see that the right is done at KATH.

Backing their grievances, Secretary Kodua noted that the Ashanti Region is the most populous region in Ghana, yet it is the least endowed in terms of healthcare facilities. KATH is the only hospital of repute in this part of the country, which attends to    major referrals hospitals, the group noted.

Meanwhile, the AYA has threatened to reveal financial malpractices and massive fraud at KATH under the stewardship of Dr. Akpaloo.
