Afoko And Kwabena Agyapong Should Step Aside; Nana Addo Not Involved - NPP V/R Chairman

NPP Volta Regional Chairman, John Peter Amewu has debunked the speculation that the 2016 Flagbearer of the party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is behind the attempt to oust Chairman Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong from their post.

According to him, the constitution of the party mandate the Executive Committee at the regional levels to meet to deliberate on matters affecting the party and to call on the higher body in the party to address the issues accordingly.

Speaking on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, Peter Amewu said the committee wholeheartedly resolved and agreed that it is important to petition the National Council, Council of Elders and National Executive Committee to ask the two leaders to step aside as investigation and administrative issues are put in proper place.

“The direction was coming from the Executive Committee, we met and deliberated on these issues and came up with this petition...it is just a petition to the National Council to consider and it is not as people have reported it that Nana Addo is behind it,” he stated.

“It should be put on record that the decision to ask the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong and National Chairman, Paul Afoko to step aside does not mean they are responsible for the heinous crime committed against the late Chairman of Upper East region, Mahama Adams,” he added.

He reiterated that there are a number of times that party foot-soldiers have taken over the party, adding the party administrative has been confronted with a lot of indiscipline situation which has been difficult for them to manage the affairs of the party at the highest level.

“We want the higher body to intervene and resolve and so the petition was address to them to look at these issues and see the way forward. Election is about a year and Parliamentary is about a few weeks to come and we don’t have the administration of the party functioning and something needs to be done,” he bemoaned.

He was of the view that since Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong took over the administration of the party, there has been confusion, confrontation and indiscipline right down from the polling station to the National level, stressing “such development is not good for the growth of this party”.
