Afoko And Agyapong Always Foment Trouble Among The National Executives - G/R Chairman

Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Ishmael Ashitey has asked his party National Chairman Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong to step aside honorably.

According to him, the two leaders at the hierarchy are responsible for the disintegration of the party at the national level as NPP from the Regional to the polling station levels are solidly united without disagreement in decision making.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Mr. Ashitey strongly accused Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong of always fomenting trouble among the national executives.

...the General Secretary and the National Chairman are on one side and the others are also on another side…everyday confrontations, problems and quarrels here and there,” he lamented.

He pointed out that the elephant fraternity cannot afford to sit and wait for things to deteriorate before they act.

We have already talked to them over happenings in the party because there was a time all the 10 regional chairmen went to them to pop champagne asking them to lead the party in unity and peace….if these two may not agree with the rest of the executives to get the unity we need in the party then it is a problem for us,” he said.

He noted that the General Secretary's refusal to attend an emergency meeting which involved the Flagbearer with the excuse that he was eating fufu and the duos (Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong) trip to the Northern Regions without informing the regional executives were bad precedents.

...all these adds up to the fact that the leaders don’t want the party well. The regional executives are one and we are not divided. Have you heard any wranglings among us? Have you ever heard we've disagreed to the point of it escalating beyond our meeting grounds?

Anybody not supporting somebody is not a problem at all; we cannot all support one person and that is what democracy means but that should not bring about disintegration of the party. We cannot allow these people to destroy the party before we act,” he fumed.
