"Dont Pay Over-Delayed Electricity Bills"

The Public Utility and Regulation Commission (PURC) has asked public electricity consumers not to pay any accumulated bill that is presented them by the power providers. According the commission, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Northern Electricity Department of VRA automatically forfeit payment of tariff from a consumer when they present a bill after 12 months. The commission said it is compelled to issue the directive because it has observed that both the ECG and NED are slow in demanding for payments of services they render. The directive is also in line with the Electricity Supply and Distribution Regulation L.I. 1816, which forbid both the ECG and NED to demand payment of bills up to 12 months. The two companies are accused of waiting for consumers bills to buildup before they present them, especially when consumers changed their meters from the credit to prepaid metering system. PURC asked consumers to report any violation of the directive to the Commission.
