Catechist Commits Suicide

A 56-year-old Presbyterian catechist at Hwidiem in the Asutifi South District in the Brong Ahafo Region has allegedly committed suicide.

Briefing the Daily Graphic in an interview, the Kenyasi Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Teddy Damttey-Brown, said about 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015, Alex Kofi Asare, a 56-year-old catechist of the Hwidiem Presbyterian Church, who was also a mason, asked someone to split firewood for his wife.

The shooting

ASP Damttey-Brown explained that as soon as the man started chopping the firewood, Asare went indoors. 

Not long afterwards, a gunshot was heard from Asare’s room that was locked.

He explained that other residents who heard the sound of the gun rushed to Asare’s abode and forced the door open only to find Asare in a pool of blood.

ASP Damttey-Brown said when Asare was sent to the Hwidiem government hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigations

Asare did not leave any suicide note. However the police have started their investigations.
