Assembly Member Decries Rate Of Indiscipline In Ghana

The assembly member for Ngleshie Amanfrom in the Ga South municipality, Zackaria Ali Mohammed has condemned the rate at which indiscipline is eating into the moral fiber of the Ghanaian society.

Addressing school children in his area as part of activities to mark citizenship week organized by National Commission for Civic Education at Ga South, under the theme “discipline Ghana,” the Assembly member stated that it is high time those in authority crack the whip and make sure that there is discipline in all facets of life.

He suggested that the exercise to instill discipline in Ghanaians should start from the school, especially, at the basic level of education so that the pupils will grow up with it.

He charged the pupils to adhere to the rules and regulations prescribed by the school authority and also go out to explain to their parents the need to be law abiding citizens.

The chairman for the occasion also the assembly member for Ngleshie Amanfrom in the Ga South municipality, Mohammed Zackaria said the country is engulfed with filth and facing sanitation problems because the awareness creation about the need as a country to live in hygienic way is very low.

As a result, according to him, it is incumbent on the school children to take the mantle of responsibility to educate their parents and the general public about the implication of poor sanitation.

He was of the view that education is not meant to serve only academic purposes rather it should have an impact on the social life of the populace.

“Education starts from home and before the white people brought their formal education to the land of Ghana, our forefathers were having their informal education which talked about the virtues and vices of a society which cleanliness was among the virtues”, he hinted.

He was of the view that school children have a charge to keep and it is to make sure that they teach their parents to keep the environment clean as they have been taught in schools.

He also advised both teachers and parents to dedicate much of their time to the betterment of children’s education.

He said most parents put little premium on their children’s education and some even do not care whether their children go to school or not; saying “some do not know the class of their children, what interest them is how to get money.

“Most parents do not have interest in their children’s education, they do not know the importance of child education, some do not care whether their children go to school or not, what they know is just giving birth,” he stated.

He advised the teachers to love the school children, have ample time for them and make sure that they achieve the best they want to achieve in life for them to become responsible citizens in the near future.

He said it is time for the sanitation laws to be strengthened and implemented effectively so that those who violate them would be brought to book to serve as a deterrent to others.
