Peace Cannot Be Bought - Minister

Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, Northern Regional Minister has advised people in the region to embrace peace becauas it was a precious commodity which could not be bought at the open market.

He said the development and the good life that the people were yearning for cannot be achieved if the region continues to experience pockets of conflicts that keeps recuring.

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru, who was speaking at a ceremony held at the Tamale Jubilee Park to mark the end of the month long fasting and prayers of Ramadan, said no individual or group would ever benefit from conflicts since it inflicts pain on everyone and would help in the development of the region.

“Our actions and words must always be directed towards achieving sustainable peace. It is not enough to have peace as an intention but we must go the extra mile to seek it by re-examining our relationship with our neighbour as to whether we love, tolerate, understand, accept each other and learn to forgive,” he said.

The Minister encouraged Muslims to use the season to renew their commitment to peace, remain faithful to the belief of Islam and live in harmony with others.

He said government was committed to addressing the current economic challenges and assured labour unions to exercise patience with the government as novelty ways were being explored to tackle their grievances.

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru presented about 100 bags of rice to the aged and the less privileged to enable them to take part in the celebration.

Alhaji Abdul-Salaam Adam, Chief Imam of the Tamale Central Mosque, led the gathering through prayers and thanked Allah for a successful month-long fasting, which is one of the five pillars of Islam.

He prayed for unity and peace saying, “Let us see ourselves as brothers and sisters belonging to different political parties and therefore no need to harm each other.”

The Chief Imam advised the youth not to indulge in social vices such as alcoholism and drug-abuse, to enable them to restore their faith with Allah.
