Liberty's Wafu Participate Clarify

The Ghana Football Association has dismissed reports that Liberty Professionals' participation in revamped Wafu club championship was down to favoritism on the part of the sport body. President of the FA, Kwesi Nyantakyi says the reaction to Liberty's participation runs contrary to the facts. Concerns had been raised that the Dansoman-based side barely avoided relegation this season, sparking some controversy. But the FA has confirmed that Liberty entered the competition by virtue of placing fifth in the 2007/2009 league season and not by their position this season's league standings. Liberty entered that competition on the basis of their finish last season. The start of this competition was postponed, so Liberty are not playing in the Wafu handpicked by the GFA, he said. The draw for this competition has been made way back and the Ghana League only finished last Sunday, so there is no connection between the placements and Liberty's participation.
