Opoku Ware Headmaster Sacked?

Credible Information reaching The Chronicle has it that the Ghana Educational Service (GES) has asked the headmaster of Opoku Ware Senior High (OWSH) by asking him to proceed on leave, prior to retirement.

Sometime last Thursday, the Director General of GES, Mr. Jacob Kor filed a letter, asking Mr. Fedlis Mathew Oppong-Mensah, an old boy of the school, to vacate office and hand over files and documents to the Ashanti Regional Educational Directorate.

Director General Kor confirm via telephone to The Chronicle that Mr. Oppong-Mensah has been asked to go home, in line with the regulations of the Ghana Education Service.

The action by the GES follows complaints by angry and concerned Opoku Ware Old Students Association who are complaining that the embattled headmaster reportedly falsified his birth certificate from June 13, 1954 to December 30, 1957 – in a bid to extend his stay in office. It follows reports from two fact-finding teams.

He is also accused of collecting money from two year groups, which were meant for customized school blazers but were never given to the students.

Upon the request of the Opoku Ware Old Students Association, a team of auditors were deployed from Accra to the school, after which a technical team led by Rev. Akandi also examined the findings.

Mr. Oppong-Mensah has declined to comment on the allegations and the purported termination of his appointment and has directed this reporter to the GES for details.
