Its Time We Call Off Our Strike; People Are Dying - Dr. Osei Bonsu

A member of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Godfred Osei-Bonsu Twum, has called on his colleague doctors to call off the strike action.

According to him, whiles government is yet to negotiate with them on their conditions of service – they must attend to both in-patient and new emergency cases.

The doctors have been on strike for almost a month over demands for their conditions of service.

Negotiations with government have stalled, painting a gloomy picture about the situation – Reports also indicated that, over 500 lives have died as a result of the strike action.

The doctors have withdrawn all services to the Out Patient Departments of all public hospitals - they have also refused to attend to Emergency situations.

They are however, rendering services to in-patients following a decision they took at their last General Meeting last Friday.

But speaking on NeatFM's morning show "Ghana Montie", Dr. Godfred Osei-Bonsu Twum who works at the Kaneshie Polyclinic insisted that the decision made by his association was “unfortunate”.

To him, the medical association must call off the strike since “people are dying”.

Dr. Godfred Osei-Bonsu Twum however described himself as a “doctor-politician” – since even before the Mahama-led government employed him, “people know me to be an NDC man and I know how government works”.

His assertion and plea was however dismissed by some headship of the medical association who called into the show.
