Reject George Boateng; He Will Be A Disaster For Ghana

It is unfortunate and distasteful that we have people like George Boateng, the NDC youth Organizer for Oyarifa in Ga East Municipality wanting to be the President of the Republic of Ghana.

As an anti-narcotics and youth based organization, we have noted with grave concern, the irrational suggestion by the embattled flagbearer aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. George Boateng that he would legalize commercial production of marijuana for export to boost the economy.

He says he would do this if he is given the nod by his party and subsequently elected as the President of Ghana during the 2016 general elections. It is instructive to note that ,we have no qualms with Mr. Boateng aspiring to the highest office on the land, since he is a citizen of Ghana.

But for a person of his caliber to suggest that one of his policies would be to introduce the youth into agriculture and particularly issuing them with license to grow marijuana on commercial scale for export could be described as uncalled for and leaves much to desire.

Although, Mr. George Boateng claimed he was aware of a law sitting in our statute books which allows people to export "Wee" during an interview on many radio stations in Accra, it was surprising to us that Mr. Boateng had no clue of the Narcotics Drugs (Control Enforcement and Sanctions) 1990 PNDCL 236 which prohibits production, possession, administration, consumption etc. of any narcotic drugs in the country.

We believe his inability to even quote correctly, the Narcotics Drug Control Enforcement and Sanctions 1990 PNDCL 236 ,when he was asked to quote the law clearly shows how Mr. Boateng is ignorant as far as Ghana's narcotics law is concerned.

We will like to put it on record for the purposes of Mr. Boateng's obliviousness of the law that a new Draft Bill on Narcotic Drugs is currently before cabinet for consideration and approval.

It is instructive to note that unlike, the existing PNDC Law 236 where offenders are given between 5 and 10 years jail term, the new Bill has raised the bar to between 12 and 24 years to serve as deterrent to narcotic drugs offenders due to the dangers they pose to human health.

Moreover, we are of the opinion that for Mr. Boateng to turn a blind eye on the monumental problems associated with the usage of narcotic drugs clearly shows that he condones illegality and such a person must not be taken serious by Ghanaians because the future of this country would be doomed than.

We are baffled that if his own party in government and other political parties as well as Civil Society Organization (CSOs) have initiated the process of making narcotics trade unattractive, why would Mr. Boateng seek to undermine his own party and attempt to suppress the sovereign will of the people of Ghana?

Reject Mr. George Boateng’s marijuana message for the betterment of the nation.

Long live Ghana!!
