The Third edition of a four-week Creative Holiday School has ended in Kumasi on Friday with a call on the organizers to engage more children in the programme, to enable them to acquire creative skills to enhance their development.
Deputy Director of Visual Arts at the Centre for National Culture in Kumasi, Mr. Eric Teye Matey, who made the call, said the country�s creative potentials must be harnessed.
He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the programme that was organised for 40 children selected from public and private schools in the Kumasi Metropolis.
Over 100 children have so far benefited from the exercise since the School was started in 2007.
Mr. Matey called for the organisers to include the teaching of French and local languages in the programme to broaden the horizon of participants.
Ms. Celia Marshall, a Director of the Participatory Development Associates (PDA), a private sector human development organization, said the Creative School, an initiative of (PDA), was organized in collaboration with the Centre for National Culture in Kumasi with assistance from the Cultural Initiative Support Programme.
She said participants were taken through science, sports, music, dance, pottery, story telling and drama.
Mrs. Susan Frimpong, Co-ordinator of the School, commended the children and parents who contributed to the success of the programme.
She expressed the hope that experience and knowledge acquired by participants would help in improving their academic performance.
Nana Sarfo Kantanka, Deputy Director for Performing Arts at the Cultural Centre in Kumasi, said the Centre started the School in 1992 but it collapsed three years later due to the lack of funds and called for its sustenance to help train children during the long vacations.
