The Minister of Finance, Seth Tekper has reaffirmed government's pledge to improve health facilities in the country.

Presenting the 2016 Financial Year Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government of Ghana to Parliament, Mr. Tekper noted construction works and infrastructure projects are at the completion stage in certain specified hospitals across the nation.

“In line with government’s objectives of putting people first, we continue to improve on the delivery of healthcare. We embarked on a number of infrastructure projects which are at advanced stages of completion. As slated, this includes the University of Ghana and Ridge Hospitals which are 65% and 60% complete. The Dodowa district hospital in the Greater Accra Region is about 80% complete while the Takoradi, Fomena, Kumahu and Abetifi hospitals are between 15% and 35% complete. The Upper West Regional hospital is also at 68 percent completion and is scheduled to be completed in 2016.”

The Minister further noted that a number of projects are ongoing at the community level to improve the health sector.

“For many of our community, they do not need the size of a Ridge hospital or the size of the Korle Bu hospital. Mr. Speaker, the community health planning and services concepts or the chips compound that has just been displayed remains the best strategy for bringing basic health services to the community level. The policy was revealed to make it more effective and a model designed for the chips compound was completed.”
