Travellers Lives In Danger As Tema Motorway Deteriorates

The Accra-Tema Motorway is now full of potholes, making travelling risky for road users.

When the Ghanaian Times went round yesterday, some of the potholes that had been patched were deteriorating and getting wider, compelling drivers to drive recklessly in attempting to avoid them.

This has resulted in a number of accidents.

When contacted on the issue the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) appealed to the authorities concerned to find a lasting solution to the problem.

The porter of the Accra-Tema Motorway of GPRTU, Mr. Albert Antie-Addy, said an immediate solution was needed to prevent needless deaths on the road.

“Now you see a driver in the outer lane rushing into the inner and vice versa, because they want to avoid a pothole and this is dangerous to both drivers and passengers,” he said.

Mr. Antie-Addy described the situation as very disturbing and, therefore, urged the government to as a matter of urgency, work on the road to prevent loss of lives.
