Ahanta West MP, Family Brawl Over House, Allegedly Beats Brothers Wife

The Member of Parliament for Ahanta West, Hon. George Kwame Aboagye has been sued for illegally confiscating a family house belonging to his late foster grandmother.

According to the plaintiffs, George Kwofie, Kwasi Blay and Afiba Grace, the Ahanta West MP has no right to ask them to vacate H/NO. B 743/7, Niel Ansah Street, Awudome Estate, in Accra since it is a family and he is also not the family head or next of kin.

They accused the former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Hon. George Kwame Aboagye of having plans to sell the family property because it is in a prime location.

“He is only trying to deceive us that he wants to rent or lease this property out to a Lebanese but he has intentions of selling it because my sources have told me that, he wants to sell it”, George Kwofie posited.

A distraught son of the owner of the house, Peter Dadson revealed that his mother, Madam Hannah Esi Badu Dadson never willed the property to the Honourable Member of Parliament since he is just one her nephews.

He added that leaders of the family like Madam Denisse who is currently resident in Cote d’Ivoire and Nana ArdeAgyevi VI are the ones who can give portions of the property out and even with that they need to consult other family members for peace to prevail.

Nana ArdeAgyevi VI, in an interview averred that, the house was a family property and therefore before Hon. Aboagye engaged in any form of renovation or lease exercise he needed to inform the elders of the family.

“It is a family property which all members who travel from Princess Town in the Western Region reside in when they visit Accra. So it would have been prudent for him to seek for permission from the family before engaging in any exercise. He should remember he is not the owner or administrator of the property”, he said adding that “He cannot use his position as a Member of Parliament to bully any family member so long as the laws of the country exist”.

The plaintiffs in their particulars of claim has pleaded with the court for general damages for trespass, an order for a declaration that they (plaintiffs) are entitled the continuous occupation and possession of the subject matter being H/NO. B 743/7, NielAnsah Street, Awudome Estate, Accra, an order for perpetual injunction to restrain the defendant (Hon Aboagye) from ejectingg the plaintiffs from the subject matter or treating them same in any manner inimical to their interests as well as costs including legal fees.

In other developments, according to Mr. George Kwofie and his wife Mavis Kwofie, the MP for Ahanta West who is brother to Mr. Kwofie visited their family residence on the 26th of November with his wife asking the inhabitants to vacate the house by 15th of March, 2015.

However, after Mr. Kwofie who was not available on the above date came back from work on the 27th November, 2015 his wife, according to him, had been beaten up by the former GIPC boss and his wife, which led to a brawl between the relatives.

“After realizing that he and his wife had beaten up my wife, I reported the issue to the Kaneshie Police Station who directed us to see a medical expert”, George Kwofie stated.

The assaulted wife of Hon. Aboagye’s brother according to the Medical Officer’s report signed by Dr. Godfred Osei-Bonsu of the Kaneshie Polyclinic suffered multiple abrasions on her head and contrission of her chest wall.

Family sources also told this paper that the Member of Parliament has been harassing tenants of the house parading himself as the owner of the property.

Eyewitnesses have also told The New Crusading GUIDE that, Hon. Aboagye and his wife beat Madam Mavis Kwofie mercilessly saying that the Police cannot do anything to him because he (Hon. Aboagye) is a Member of Parliament.

The former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC), Hon. George Kwame Aboagye according to the 2011 Auditor General’s report never paid tax from his salary during his tenure as the CEO of the Center contrary to the provision of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

“No deduction of tax from CEO’s income. We draw attention that the failure to adhere to the relevant tax regulations had resulted in the loss of tax revenue to the state.” This was continued in the AG’s report.

The former CEO of the center, who is now the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahanta West, served the Center for years without tax deduction from his salary, contrary to the provision of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

This was disclosed when the Center appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on October 17, 2015, to answer to queries raised about their 2011 financial year by the Auditor General.

Meanwhile efforts to reach the honourable Member of Parliament proved futile.
