NDC Primaries: Shocking Results Galore...As Incumbents Fall
The Presidential and Parliamentary Primaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress has ended with some bigwigs of the party falling and others taking over.
Even though some of the constituencies have their primaries rescheduled, majority were held today.
In the Gomoa West Constituency in the Central region, Head of Corporate Communications of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Mr Samuel Fletcher beat the incumbent Francis Kojo Arthur with 4,494 votes while the latter had 1,284.
On the other hand, Mr Abraham Amaliba, a lawyer lost his bid to lead the party in the Bolgatanga Central constituency.
He was beaten by Mr Isaac Adongo, who polled 4,290.
From the North Dayi constituency in the Volta Region, results indicate that the incumbent MP George Loh has lost the primaries.
He polled 2209 votes, losing to a final year student of the University of Cape Caost Joycelyn Tetteh, who polled 3037 votes. Prof Gavua on the other hand polled 1380 out of the total votes cast.
Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Mr Alfred Kwami Agbesi by all indications will not be returning to Parliament after the 2016 elections after he lost to Mr Ernest Norgbey.
Mr Norgbey had 3,688 votes while the incumbent, Agbesi garnered 1,241 votes.
The incumbent Member of Parliament for the Adentan constituency, Emmanuel Nii Armah Ashie Moore, has also lost his seat after he garnered only 1,130 votes.
He was defeated by Mohammed Ramadan who polled 2,387 votes.
On the otherhand, Radio Gold's Suhiyini Alhassan and TV3 Eric Don- Arthur won in their various constituencies.
Suhiyini won with 4,305 votes in Tamale North Constituency in the Northern Region; while, Don-Arthur polled 1694 votes in the Effutu Constituency in the Central Region.
Mahama Ayariga will be going to Parliament again after he won massively by garnering 8,249 votes.
Also, Alban Bagbin, Kempes, Oko Vanderpuije, Okity Duah, Kwame Dzokoto and Hannah Tetteh won in their various constituencies.
Bagbin polled 3237 votes in what was practically a three-candidate race, beating his closest challenger and university lecturer, Mr Roger Galee, and customs officer Salifu Dumbah who had 1696 and 1090 votes respectively.
Former Metropolitan Chief Executive for Tema, Mr Robert Kempes Papa Nii Ofosuware, emerged winner with 2,731 votes as against 1,235 votes garnered by his closest contender, Micheal Abbey.
Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije polled 3,298 votes to take over the candidature from Hon. Fritz Baffour and his contender Dr. Wisdom Nii Amo Duodoo walked away with 1,259 votes.
Kwame Dzokoto won with 1,450 as against Thomas Okyere, who managed to poll 398 votes.
