Enyan Maim celebrate Akwambo

The Paramount Chief of Enyan-Maim Traditional Area, Okofo Amoako Bondam III, has appealed to the government to establish technical and vocational schools in the area to help children who could not further their education to learn skills. This would stop the migration of children to the urban centres to look for non-existing jobs. Okofo Amoako Bondam said this at a durbar of chiefs and people of the area to climax their Akwambo festival at Enyan-Maim on Saturday. He said previous governments refused to fulfil their promises to the people that they would improve education infrastructure in the area to enhance teaching and learning. Okofo Amoako Bondam, who is the chairman of the University of Education, Winneba, Governing Council, assured the district assembly of the support of chiefs in the traditional area. Mr Cassiel Ato Forson, Member of Parliament foe Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, said he had established a 250 million-dollar foundation to raise money for the development of the area. He said he had purchased 50 taxis for distribution to some youth on work-and-pay basis and that when the money is repaid it would be given to women in the area as loans. The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Baba Jamal, appealed to the people to be patient with the government because it had the development of the country at heart. He said the National Democratic Congress had been given a four-year mandate to lead the country and that it was too early judge the government.
