6 Arrested For Dealing In Fake Decoders

Six electricians and Multi TV dealers have been hauled before a Ho District Magistrate Court for allegedly dealing in Strong Decoders and fraudulently passing them on to unsuspecting customers.

Two electricians; Aaron Mottey and Tony Matsi, together with four Multi TV dealers Anyidoho Dotse, Benjamin Awudza, Courage Mensah and Richard Edoh Gake, were accused of dealing in decoders with fake labels or counterfeited trademarks.

Their prosecution came on the back of complaints from clients that fake Strong decoders were flooding the market and being sold at cheaper prices.

The Strong Digital Technologies Limited, the sole accredited distributors of Strong decoders in Ghana, lodged an official report to the police.

A swoop was later conducted in Ho and the six persons together with their respective fake decoders were apprehended and arraigned before court.

Blondell Kevin Apful, the Southern Sector Manager of Strong Digital Technology, said the swoops mounted across the country followed an earlier campaign rolled out by the company to sensitize clients and dealers on the influx of these fake products into the market.

“We mounted the campaign telling people about the fake ones. And warning the traders, the installers and even the dealers that are into this trade; that these fake decoders they are selling, are unlawful and they would be brought to book” he said.
