13-Year-Old Girl Killed By Floods

The recent heavy rains experienced in the Upper West Region has left some communities in the region flooded leading to the destruction of farms and properties world several millions of cedis. A 13-year old girl was also reported to have been killed by the recent floods that hit the region. In an interview with the Daily Dispatch, the Regional co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Seidu Bawa, said the recent floods rendered some people in the region homeless, adding that many roofs were either blown off or the structures pulled down. Mr Bawa said those who had their farms around the water ways were also washed away leaving them with nothing to depend on. He regretted that despite all the public education that they have been doing, people still farm and build on or around these water ways. He noted that Funsi, Wechiau, Issaa and Kundugu were the areas worst affected. Mr Bawa said NADMO is doing all it can within its capacity to help those affected.
