Parliament on Thursday eulogised the late John Gyetuah, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi West Constituency for his commitment to the work of the House, development in the constituency and progress of the nation.

Contributions from both sides of the House recalled the diligence and heartfelt service of the late legislator, who represented the Constituency on the ticket of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), for three terms since 2005.

The late MP, a teacher by profession, held a BA in Sociology from the University of Cape Coast, and EMGL from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), and was training to become a lawyer.

He was a member of the Committee on Members Holding Offices of Profit, and Roads and Transport and been penciled to go for a fourth term in 2016, but unfortunately, died at 56 on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at the 37 Military in Accra.

Tributes recalled how he performed with passion on issues related to the road sector, with probing and insightful questions, even querying ministers from his own government, when he was not supposed to do so.

The late Gyetuah strongly advocated for roads and development in his constituency, and the Western Region in general.

Alhaji Mubarak Muntaka, Majority Chief Whip, began the tribute with a Biblical quotation from the Book of 1 Corinthians 15:53-57, and registered the shock of his colleagues on the death of Mr Gyetuah, who he said had been seen on the precincts of the House a few days before his death.

He described the late Mr Gyetuah as a grassroots person who was very committed to the work of the House.

According to Alhaji Muntaka, the late Mr Gyetuah was an unassuming person, who performed advocacy role without any provocation.

“His passion for developing Ghana knew no bounds,” the Majority Chief Whip, who is also the MP for Asawase in the Ashanti Region said, adding “he was objective and fair minded, a man of principle, whose sense of justice was unquestionable.”

Tributes from Mr Joseph Yieleh Chireh, MP for Wa West, Mr George Kofi Arthur, MP for Amenfi Central; Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, all praised the late MP for his sense of duty, and urged electorate in Amenfi West to elect a suitable replacement in the forthcoming bye-election, scheduled for next week Tuesday, December 15, 2015.

Mr Dan Botwe, the Minority Chief Whip, and MP for Okere, described the late Mr Gyetuah as someone “who lived the very things he believed in…he felt so much about the Constituency he served.”

The late Mr Gyetauh, a Methodist, was born on October 1, 1959, and hailed from Asankran Breman.

Meanwhile the House had to adjourn for some work on some papers which were to be laid, and rescheduled a meeting with the Electoral Commission to Tuesday.

The House has scheduled to sit at 0900 hours instead of 1000 hours due to the volume of work at hand, including the funeral of the late Mr Gyetuah.
