Fake Recruiters Granted Bail

Eleven persons who have been arrested and charged with the offence of conspiracy to commit crime to wit, “defrauding by false pretence” have been granted bail to the sum of GHc50, 000 each by an Accra Circuit Court.

The accused persons in addition need one surety each who is a public servant and earn a monthly salary of not less than GHc5, 000 to satisfy their bail condition. They are to report to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service every Wednesday at 11:00am.

Prior to the court presided over by His Honour Afia Agbanu Kumador adjourning the case, counsel for the accused persons, Lawyer George Asameney while praying for them to be granted bail said the charges preferred against his clients was a “complete story” because they are a keep fit club.

He said they are ready to prove they are innocent of the charge. He added that his clients are ready to appear before the court anytime they are asked to come.

He also said some of them are students and nursing mothers while some of the men are fathers and so the court should grant them bail since they have permanent abodes.

The court after granting them bail adjourned the case to December 22, 2015.

The 11 accused persons who pleaded not guilty to all six counts are; Godson Kwame Duho, Reindorf Adisi , Martha Robertson , Jerry John Kusi , Nii Boye Lartey, Isaac Anyigba Vor, Kingsford Anane Dogbe , Gideon Galilee Hilson, Noah Binaii, Farduk Bukari and Crace Obsebe

Brief facts

According to the prosecution, on December 5, 2015, information received at the regional police headquarters in Accra indicated that an unknown organisation was recruiting and training unsuspecting people at Taifa with a promise of employing them to thevarious security services in the country.

The Regional Command according to the facts dispatched a team of police personnel to the Taifa Roman Catholic school park where the Police saw about three hundred and fifty (350) people undergoing physical training exercise. The police managed to arrest the accused persons as leaders and organizers.

“Investigation disclosed that Godson Kwame Duho, was the founder and leader of unregistered Afrighan Fidel Sercuricom Company in Accra. While Reindorf Adisi, was the company coordinator in the Ashanti Region.

Martha Robertson, the facts noted was the company's women’s organizer at Taifa, while Jerry John Kusi, is the company co-ordinator in Accra.

Nii Boye Lartey, the first accused person currently large, represents the company in the Central Region, with the rest of the agents of the company tasked by the first accused to recruit unsuspecting people to join the company to get direct employment into any of the security agencies in Ghana.

The complainants were asked to pay non-refundable registration fees between GHc100 and GHc150.00.

On December 5, 2015, the complainants became convinced and trooped to the Taifa Roman Catholic school park together with others numbering about three hundred and fifty (350) and accordingly paid the said fees to the accused persons with the hope of gaining employment into security services.

All the accused persons were arrested on the spot where alleged fraudulent documents pertaining to the recruitment.

Investigation continues as there are more complaints being recorded.
