Accra Police Assure Public Of Justice

The Accra Regional Police Commander, Commissioner of Police (COP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has pledged to pursue all high profile cases handled by his predecessor to ensure that perpetrators are prosecuted.

He said the police would compile outstanding cases and pursue them to ensure justice for victims.

He gave this assurance to journalists at his maiden press briefing in Accra yesterday, to outline his vision for the command.

COP Dampare mentioned issues affecting the region to include armed robberies, chieftancy and communal conflicts, land disputes, demonstrations and narcotics related crimes.

He said his outfit would continue to work to bring policing closer to the communities by intensifying night patrols, opening police stations in communities where there are none, deepening police visibility programmes and educating members of the public to be security conscious.

COP Dampare stated that the police would also continue to use reasonable force to maintain peace and security in areas of political, chieftancy and communal conflicts.

Touching on this year’s yuletide, he said the command had increased personnel in the metropolis to ensure the free flow of traffic.

Commenting on the upcoming elections, COP Dampare said the command would be resolute, objective and professional in the discharge of its duties to ensure peaceful polls.

“The command was in the process of finalising its security arrangements for the whole election process and we would engage stakeholders such as the Electoral Commission, religious bodies, civil society organisation and media to get their inputs,” he said.

He urged all stakeholders to play their roles efficiently to ensure successful polls.

COP Dampare said the police in collaboration with other security agencies would ensure that the peace and stability of the country was not compromised during and after elections.
