Justice Dery Back In Court Today

Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, Court of Appeal judge who dismissed Justice Paul Dery’s contempt case which emanated from Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ judicial corruption scandal has revoked her earlier decision and ordered the suit to be restored.

This was after the embattled High Court judge petitioned the Court of Appeal to reverse the High Court ruling dismissing his contempt suit brought against the ace journalist and four others.

Justice Torkonoo on September 29, 2015 ruled that Justice Dery’s case was “incompetent” and “frivolous” and dismissed the case “illumini”(entirely), but Justice Dery who felt his right of being heard had been violated filed a petition for the ruling to be quashed.

It was the case of the applicant that the court had scheduled the matter to be heard on October 12, 2015, but it was erroneously heard on September 29, 2015.

The special judge, however, after reviewing her documents has set aside her ruling that dismissed the application for contempt on account of the Registrar tampering with dates, and has ordered for the application to be restored to the docket.
