IGP Honours Ksi Guns Bust Cops

Thirteen police officers from the Ashanti Regional Police Command have been honoured by the Ag Inspector General of Police.

The cops diligently monitored the activities of arms dealers for several months and succeeded in arresting them and retrieving lethal weapons from them in Kumasi recently.

The police officers include Superintendent Reverend Samuel Nyametse Ameyaw, Superintendent Frank Abrokwa, Chief Inspector Bossman Asirifu Ababio, Inspector Joseph Ibrahim Bawah, Inspector Akwasi Antwi Boasiako and Sergeant Kassim Ben Ahmed.

The rest are Sergeant Agyiri Frederick Okoh, Corporal Mary Adutwumwaa, Corporal Robert Agyare, Corporal Joseph Sokatsi, Lance Corporal Isaac Chimbuah, Lance Corporal Dickson Frimpong and Corporal Jonas Kobla.

They were given a certificate and a medal each by the Ag IGP, Mr John Kudalor.

Addressing the awardees, Mr Kudalor said the police officers demonstrated a lot of zeal, courage and commitment in the arrest and retrieval of weapons and ammunition, including 11 AK 47 assault rifles, 10 G3 assault rifles, one machine gun and several ammunition from the principal suspect, believed to be an Ivorian national who was operating with the support of some Ghanaian criminals.

He noted that even though the police were on record for having made similar arrests in the past, the retrieval of the weapons was the most significant.

“The retrieval of these weapons is no doubt a clear indication that there could be more of them in the hands of criminals living in our communities.

“The onus is therefore on us to strive to arrest persons illegally possessing arms and retrieve all the lethal weapons in our desire to continue enjoying the peace that has made this country a haven within the sub-region.”

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, said some people perceive the Police Service to be not worth dying for but the latest development had proved the skeptics wrong.

He expressed gratefulness to the informants and volunteer groups who did not only give the police information leading to the retrieval of the arms, but participated in the operations under the leadership of Superintendent Reverend Samuel Adane-Ameyaw.
