20 Women Undressed By Rioting Mob

ABOUT 20 women who were wearing trousers were undressed during the riots in Kampala on Thursday and Friday, Police has said. The incidents took place in Rubaga, according to Judith Nabakooba, the Police spokesperson. Witnesses are saying that the rioters would stop women, let those who were wearing skirts go and undress those in trousers, she told Saturday Visionon phone. Womens rights activists are outraged by the reports. Jackie Asiimwe described the acts as criminal and madness. This has just degenerated into foolishness. If your agenda is to protect the Kabakas right of movement within the kingdom, how do women and trousers get onto the agenda? she asked. It means that you perhaps did not have any agenda but are just using the riots to commit crimes. That is abuse of women. It is an invasion of womens privacy, she charged. Human rights activist Livingstone Sewanyana, however, blames the Government for failing to protect the people. We feel that it has failed people like the women who suffered such abuse.
