NGO holds meeting on sanitation at Nima

Mrs Mariam Salifu, President of the Nima-Mamobi Mothers Club, a non-governmental organisation, has called on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), to provide public toilet facilities and refuse containers to help solve the sanitation problems of communities within the Ayawaso East area. This she said would save the people from the huge hospital bills they paid whenever they reported sick at hospitals and other medical centres. Mrs Salifu made the call at a meeting at Mamobi in Accra with members of the Nima and Mamobi communities to brainstorm on how to solve the sanitation problems facing them. She expressed the hope that AMA would take proactive steps to provide the full complement of amenities in the two communities that could help resolve the problem. Alhaji Yakubu Ali, a former Assemblyman for East Mamobi also called on the AMA to adopt proper sanitation methods to help the communities. He called on the authorities to provide schools at Nima to facilitate education among children of school going age. Alhaji Ali noted that with proper education the sanitation problem in the area would improve drastically. He appealed to the government to provide more resources for Zoom Lion Ghana Limited, a sanitation agency, to discharge its waste management duties efficiently. Alhaji Abdul Razak, Ayawaso East Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, commended the Club for its initiative and called on the communities to desist from littering the environment.
