Cabbie Gets 7 Years For Defilement

The Akim Swedru circuit court in the Eastern Region, presided over by Emmanuel Bart Plange Brew, has sentenced a 38-year-old taxi driver, Isaac Darko, to a 7-year jail term in hard labour for defiling a 15-year-old girl.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Sallah told the court that on Wednesday, at about 3:30pm, the victim, a maid servant to the complainant, was sent to give money to somebody at Akim Oda Morning Star.

On the way back home, the police officer said, the girl boarded Isaac Darko’s taxi – based at Akim Swedru – with registration number GT 5686-13. The convict, who had a diabolic intent, worked with the victim for the rest of the day and finally lured her into his room where he had an affair with her.

Detective Chief Inspector Sallah added that Darko kept the victim in his room until a radio announcement was made. On 8th January, 2016 at about 12:30am, he took the victim to the Akim Awisa lorry park and asked her to go home.

The complainant, on seeing the girl, took her to the police station where upon interrogation, she mentioned the name of the convict as the one who took her to his room and defiled her.

She was then issued with a medical form for examination.

Isaac Darko was arrested and he admitted in his caution statement that he had committed the crime.

After investigation, he was arraigned before the court where he was found guilty and sentenced accordingly.
