Govt Is 'Joking With Cocoa Processing Company Union Chairman Cries

Workers Union Chairman of Cocoa Processing Company (CPC), Kingsley Owusu has said government is not showing much interest to invest in CPC despite its major revenue it generates for the state.

The CPC has in the interim shut down two of its two cocoa processing plants due to operational challenges.

Staff members have since been directed by the management of the company to stay at home as part of their annual leave with effect from January 25, 2016 while the factory remains shut.

But the workers union chairman Kingsley Owusu, in an interview with NEAT FM on 'Ghana Montie' said the development occurred because there is shortage of cocoa beans in the plant – this he claims has triggered a shutdown of the plant.

“They are not telling us the truth. For now the workers don’t even know when they will be called back,” he said.

Kingsley Owusu however maintained that reasons given for the shutdown of the company is unfortunate and – “I have worked with the company for so many years and we don’t do maintenance in January as they are saying.”

He also warned that the company will collapse if government doesn’t show any seriousness – “One day one day, this company will collapse.”
