MP, Agogo Residents To Get Rid Of Fulani Herdsmen

The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang and residents of Agogo have resolved to sack the fulani herdsmen in the area by themselves.

According to them, they can no longer sit idle, while the fulani herdsmen kill their loved ones and destroy their farms.

Kwadwo Baah Agyemang in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi stated that they have lost hope in the chiefs and the Police Service in the area because they have done nothing to save residents from the 'wicked acts' of the fulani herdsmen 'even though we have made several complaints.

He said even though they are not going to flaunt the laws of this country, “officially there is no cattle ranch on Agogo land at Afram Plains. Any cattle coming from that end is considered stolen and we shall not permit any such cattle to pass through Agogo...any person who may have illegally kept cattle on Agogo land should within the next 24 hours remove them...”

The MP who has decided to lead the youth of Agogo in fighting the Fulani herdsmen added that “these Fulani issue has been with us for some time and our investigations and proceedings suggest that the judicial council are the people who give them the land. We took them to court and on 20th January 2012, we had a ruling from the High Court in Kumasi that REGSEC should go and evacuate Fulanis and their cattle from our land and up till now nothing has been done..."

“…we are not preaching violence...our security forces are supposed to protect us. If they are not here to protect us, we will defend ourselves. We will not rely on anybody but rely on ourselves. Let’s come together to sack these Fulanis from here,”
