UPDATE: Five Arrested In NPP MPs Murder

The Ghana Police Service have arrested five persons in relation to the murder of the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Joseph Boakye Danquah.

The five including a security guard were picked up for questioning and to assist the police in their investigations.

Accra regional Police Command PRO, Assistant Superintendent of police, Mrs Afia Tenge who disclosed this to the media, however, declined to reveal the identities of those arrested.

Per a report by Emelia Enin-Abbey of graphiconline, those arrested included two women and three men.

J.B Danquah was killed at his Shiashi residence on Tuesday dawn by some unknown assailants.

According to reports, the MP was stabbed to death after some assailants went straight to his bedroom. They first scaled the wall by using a ladder to enter the home and after struggling with him for a few minutes, they overpowered and stabbed him.

It is unclear whether the murder was carried out by armed robbers or hired assailants.

JB Danquah was named after a leader of Ghana's independence movement, Dr. JB Danquah who formed the United Gold Coast Convention in 1947. His liberal political ideology is the foundation of Ghana's largest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party, NPP.

In a related development, NPP leaders have been visiting the home of the slain legislator where shocked party supporters and neighbours have gathered; still grappling with the unfortunate news. The latest is NPP Vice-Presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The late JB Danquah, a chartered accountant, would have been 51 in July.

He was a former deputy Women and Children’s Affairs minister under the John Agyekum Kufuor administration.

Prior to becoming an MP, he was the Executive Director, Automotive Springs (Ghana) Limited, Accra.

He left behind a wife and two children.
